Slavery 2010: Miami, Atlanta

Did you know the U.S. had major arrests involving “human trafficking” this past year?

Do you know what “human trafficking” is? That is an antiseptic term to describe Slavery in the 21st century.

Yes, SLAVERY.

Did you know over the past 30 years, more humans were sold into slavery than throughout the 400 year spectrum of the trans-Atlantic colonial slave trade?

And this just does not happen overseas. Where I live in Florida, we have 3 of the top cities for slavery in the U.S.:  Miami, Tampa and Orlando (home of Mickey Mouse… what a contrast… while families are experiencing memories for a lifetime at Disney, humans are being brutalized just down the street…).

The number one city in the U.S. for slavery is Atlanta, Georgia (according to the FBI).

 SLAVERY is still with us.

And this incorporates labor and sexual slavery.

Some stats:

In the world, there are 12.3 million people in forced labor, bonded labor, forced child labor, and sexual servitude at any given time; other estimates range from 4 million to 27 million, according to estimates of the United Nations’ International Labor Organization.

Each year, an estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States to be used in the sex trade or as domestic/agricultural slaves. (U.S. Department of Justice)

An average slave in the American South in 1850 cost the equivalent of $40,000 in today’s money; today a slave costs an average of $90. (freetheslaves.net)

In 2006, there were only 5,808 prosecutions and 3,160 convictions throughout the world. This means that for every 800 people trafficked, only one person was convicted. (U.S. State Department)

Estimated annual profits made from the exploitation of all trafficked forced labor are US$ 31.6 billion. (International Labor Office)

My blood is boiling…

Might I remind you that a Christian ended legalized slavery in Great Britain: His name was William Wilberforce. It wasn’t easy… he faced many challenges:  both from Christians and non-believers. He also had a lot of assistance for his efforts which consumed him for the majority of his life.

And I will remind you that Christians were the fulcrum for ending legalized slavery in this country. Also an immense challenge.

Where is today’s William Wilberforce?

Who will begin The Fourth Servile War?
